Home > From
Monday 3 December 2007, bike ‘n ride commuters will travel for
FREE on ACTION buses.
ACTION Intertown Series buses are equipped with bike racks
- Bike racks are dedicated to the Intertown Series 300. Passengers
may use bike racks on other routes if available, and claim free travel.
However ACTION does not guarantee bike racks on routes other than the
300 series.
- Depending on operational requirements at times some buses on the Intertown route may not be fitted with bike racks
- Each bike rack can hold two bikes and each bike can be loaded or
unloaded without affecting each other.
- Bikes are held firmly in place by spring-loaded clamps. Bikes do
not touch each other or the bus, assuring safe, secure transport.
- The racks are designed to accommodate two-wheel, single seat bikes.
Bike flags, baskets and baby seats are not allowed as they restrict
the drivers’ visibility. Motorised cycles, tandems, tricycles, children’s
bikes, bikes with baby seats or baskets are not permitted.
- Children age 13 and under must have an adult with them to put the
bike in the rack.
ACTION Bike Rack Rules
- Bike wheel size must be 22 inches (55 cm) or larger.
- All loose items (e.g. water bottles, bags, bike pumps, helmets) must
be taken off the bike before placing it on the rack.
- Bikes are not to be locked on racks.
- Cyclists - Racks are available on a first come first served basis
with a maximum of 2 Bikes per bus. No queue jumping please.
- For safety reasons the bus driver is not required to assist with the use of the bike rack and should remain seated in the cabin while the passenger is loading or unloading their bicycle. The bus driver is not required to determine whether or not an auxiliary attachment is securely fitted to the bike, therefore baby seats, baskets front or back, flags or loose fitting items are not permitted.
- If bike rack is full, ACTION is under no obligation to provide free
travel or allow a bike inside the bus.
Safety
- Cyclists - always make eye contact with the driver when using ACTION
bike racks.
- Always stay visible to the driver.
- Be aware of the traffic around you.
- Always load and unload your bike from the bus-stop side of the road.
The Fine Print
- Depending on operational requirements at times some buses on the
Intertown route may not be fitted with bike racks.
- ACTION accepts no responsibility for bikes that are lost, stolen,
damaged, or left on bike racks.
- Customers use ACTION bike racks at their own risk.
